Taking to the Skies

I was asked to design a logo for a new clothing brand, Blimp Boy. They wanted the graphic to incorporate the brand’s ties to auto racing heritage with an added touch of whimsy. The Blimp logo evokes feelings of playfulness and includes colors and motifs reminiscent of those seen in automotive sports and branding.

Date: Jul-Sep 2019

Brief: Design a logo for a new clothing brand, Blimp Boy, influenced by motorsport culture and playful imagination.

Blimp Logo

The Blimp logo was designed with motorsport graphics in mind, but also incorporates the fun spirit of vintage sportswear and old automotive ad campaigns.

The initial logo concept used a condensed serif font with all lowercase letters. After running through different type samples, we decided to capitalize “Blimp” and add a small cloud over the “i” to give the design a fun, lively spirit. Colors chosen for the blimp icon are an homage to BMW’s M series, a favorite of the brand owner.
