Helping Build Cooperatives For 15 Years
The California Center for Cooperative Development (CCCD) is a nonprofit organization that promotes cooperatives as a dynamic business model to address the economic and social needs of California’s communities. They do this through education, building relationships between cooperative networks, and by providing start-up, management, guidance, and other technical assistance for the development of cooperatives.
I was a graphic design intern at CCCD, where I created graphics for social media and other campaigns, designed and laid out print materials for the organization, and created animated elements for videos.

Co-ops Rock!
CCCD wanted to do something special for the organization’s 10-year anniversary. Most of the nonprofit’s content to that point had been text or image-based; we wanted to use other mediums of communication to reach people interested in cooperatives and potential new clients.
I introduced the idea to make a video that would educate people on the benefits of cooperatives, explain how CCCD helps groups build them, and celebrate the organization’s impact on the development of successful cooperative businesses. Members of the nonprofit were interviewed to tell the organization’s story and explain what cooperative businesses are; images and animation were used to illustrate these concepts.
Brief: Create a video for CCCD that explains who the organization is, how cooperatives are beneficial, and what the organization has done to help others establish cooperative businesses in California.
For one segment of the video (starts 0:30) I made an animation to depict the story of independent Korean farmers in Lucerne Valley, CA coming together to form the Hi-Desert Jujube Co-op. This animation visually explains how independent businesses operating together as a cooperative allowed each of them to save money on supplies and reduce their individual business costs.

2018/19 Annual Newsletter
Annual newsletter that highlights the organization’s efforts over the year and is mailed out to all CCCD members.
I formatted the document, chose theme colors, edited articles, selected images, and added graphics to create the newsletter.
California Co-op Conference 2018
Every year CCCD hosts the California Co-op Conference, a place to learn about the latest developments in cooperative enterprise, gain insight on successful methods of operation and organization, and network with owners and members from California and abroad. Attendees and presenters include business owners, researchers, activists, and industry leaders that help create and develop cooperative-style businesses.

This logo graphic was featured in all promotional materials developed for the 2018 California Co-op Conference.
The logo utilizes elements synonymous with the city of San Diego; the skyline, sun, and surf. The wave is comprised of two people working together in harmony, representing the foundation of new cooperatives and partnerships.
